meaningless

Give me a body that doesn’t ache with the weight of all these unspoken words and I will tell you about all the times I’ve dreamed of flying. There are many other people I wish I could be, but never will. Just as many times as I’ve bookmarked phrases in my head, filed under ‘things I will tell me daughter when she is this age.’ It’s sort of like when you repeat a word too many times, how it stops sounding real. That’s just a rough translation, he said. But then again, isn’t everything? Isn’t all of it just as meaningless, until we give it meaning? Just like in middle school when they told us sound waves didn’t turn into sounds until they reached our ears. Unheard until we give them life inside our heads, just as everything only has meaning because we make it that way. Without it we are only sounds and shapes and letters, all of it ready and waiting for interpretation.
