This series, by Corinne May Botz, focuses on the mystique behind haunted houses. Her images range from interior shots to wide exteriors of the house she visits. The images have a soft beauty to them, while maintaing the creepy feeling of presence that a ghost leaves. She wants to focus on the dynamic between the living inhabitants in the house and how that interacts (or interferes) with the ghost’s presence in the space.
What I find truly fascinating about this project is its inspiration from Victorian ghost stories written by women. The women that used to write the stories wrote them as a means of creatively expressing domestic discomfort and the sexual politics of the era. A little bit of feminism in a series about Haunted Houses: So. Awesome.
A fascinating series!
